More info: Review the material with a WCHS cheer veteran / future senior! While everyone is required to tryout each year, we will choose leaders from the program in the past season to lead this material review with coaches to ensure that the Warren Central style and technique is represented in Game Day and ALL tryout material. You will be critiqued on the following:
- Sideline chant
- Game day cheer
- Sideline dance (similar to the extreme routine you learn for camp)
MATERIAL WILL NOT BE TAUGHT AT TRYOUTS. We use the tryout week to coach athletes on the material but not to teach it. Most of tryouts is broken down by stunting, tumbling, jumps, and performing parts of the material each day. The reason we have athletes learn material at home, is because those who make the team will be required to learn material from YouTube videos all season long and we have that same expectation at tryouts. We want to see who takes this seriously vs. who doesn’t! Our program is for athletes who work hard, go the extra mile, and who thrive on being held accountable.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Show up as the athlete you want to be in this program. We want to coach athletes who want to be present, who work hard, who use their time wisely, and who make others around them better. Inspiring other is part of the job description in high school cheerleading. We expect this from everyone who wears our colors and name. If you want to make a team, show your leadership skills, respect of the sport and coaches, and avoid anything that could portray you as having an attitude, being part of a “clique”. Try things that are new, trust the coaching, and follow examples set by veterans!
